Douglas County is a county in the northwest of the state of Nevada in the United States . The administrative seat ( County Seat ) is Minden with the only major airport in the county, the Minden-Tahoe-Airport .
history
The first trading posts in the area of today's county were established as early as the 1850s. The county was one of the first nine counties established in 1861 by the administration of what was then the Nevada Territory. It was named after Stephen Douglas , the Democratic presidential candidate for the 1860 presidential election, who fought hard words of words with future President Abraham Lincoln in this election campaign .

Douglas County, located in western Nevada, stretches from the Carson Valley to the Sierra Nevada . To the west it borders on the state of California or El Dorado County , with which it shares half of Lake Tahoe .
The county covers a total of 1910 km², of which 1838 square kilometers are land and 72 square kilometers are water, which corresponds to a water content of 3.77%.

According to the 2000 census , the county had 41,259 people. There were 16,401 households and 32,813 families. The population density was 22 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.88% White, 0.31% African American, 1.68% Native American, 1.25% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, and 2.54% other races Groups; 2.19% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 7.41% percent of the population.
Of the 16,401 households, 30.70% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 60.50% were married couples living together, 8.00% were single mothers. 27.50% were not families. 20.70% were single households and 6.60% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.88 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.00% residents under 18 years of age, 5.50% between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.40% between 25 and 44 years of age, and 28.90% between 45 and 64 years of age 15.20% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 102.10 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 100.70 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 51,849 , and the median income for a family is $ 57,092. Males had a median income of $ 40,436 versus $ 28,762 for females. The per capita income was $ 27,288. 7.30% of the population and 5.80% of families are below the poverty line. 9.70% of these were under 18 years of age and 5.30% were 65 years of age or older.
