Lander County is a county in the state of Nevada in the United States . The county seat is Battle Mountain .

The county is located in central Nevada. Its area is 14,295 square kilometers, of which 67 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Elko County , Eureka County , Nye County , Churchill County , Pershing County, and Humboldt County .
history
Lander County was one of the nine founding counties of 1861. The county was named after Frederick W. Lander , the chief engineer of a settler route.

As of the 2000 census , the county had 5,794 people. There were 2,093 households and 1,523 families. The population density was less than 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 84.41% White, 0.21% African American, 3.99% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, and 8.66% other races Groups; 2.35% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 18.52% percent of the population.
Of the 2,093 households, 39.70% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 59.70% were married couples living together, 8.10% were single mothers. 27.20% were not families. 22.30% are single households and 5.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.23.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 32.20% residents under 18 years of age, 6.80% between 18 and 24 years of age, 29.00% between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.00% between 45 and 64 years of age 7.00% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 105.50 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 105.50 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 46,067 , and the median income for a family is $ 51,538. Males had a median income of $ 45,375 versus $ 22,197 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,998. 12.50% of the population and 8.60% of families are below the poverty line. 13.50% of them were under 18 years of age and 12.90% were 65 years of age or older.
