Hollister is a city and county seat in San Benito County in the US state of California with around 35,000 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

The city forms the southern end of the Santa Clara Valley . The urban area covers an area of ​​18.8 square kilometers. The San Andreas Fault runs through the urban area and can be easily recognized in several places.

The city is connected by rail and several expressways to San José and San Francisco in the north.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census , the majority of Hollister's residents are Hispanic or Latino , around 65 percent. Around 29 percent are whites of European descent, while the remainder are split between other races as well as African American and Asians. The number of Latinos is quite high even for the California average. At the time of the census the number of households was 9860. The city became famous through the events of a meeting of motorcyclists on July 4, 1947.

The fashion company Hollister is named after the city. The name gained worldwide fame on numerous items of clothing.
