Sharron Angle (born July 26, 1949 in Klamath Falls , Oregon ) is an American politician . From 1999 to 2005 she was a member of the Nevada Assembly (the lower house of the Nevada State Legislature ) for the Republican Party . She was an unsuccessful candidate for her party in the 2010 US Senate election and failed in the 2016 Republican primary for the same Senate seat.

Family, education and work

Sharron Angle's father was a Marine in World War II and served in the Navy Reserve during the Korean War . After her father was discharged from the army, the family moved from the northwestern United States to Reno , Nevada. She graduated from the University of Nevada at Reno and graduated with a bachelor's degree .

After completing college, she moved to Ely with her husband and worked there as an assistant teacher. A short time later, the couple moved to Winnemucca , where Sharron Angle taught art for six years at Western Nevada Community College . In 1983 she helped found a small Christian school. At this school, she taught children from kindergarten to high school . When the school closed two years later, she and her family moved to Tonopah . Political career

Angle was elected to the Nye County School Board of Trustees for a term while still in Tonopah 1990 . A few years after moving to Reno, she was elected to the Nevada Parliament in 1999, which she served until 2005. She then ran for the United States House of Representatives , but was already defeated in the Republican primary.

After a hiatus of several years from politics, she ran in the 2010 Senate elections as a candidate for Nevada. It was used by conservative groups such as B. Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum , the Club for Growth or members of the Tea Party movement . In the Republican primary , she prevailed against Sue Lowden and Danny Tarkanian , among others . However, in the Senate election she defeated Harry Reid , the majority leader of the Democrats in the Senate.

After Angle had repeatedly considered a possible return to the political stage, she announced in March 2016 that she would again apply for the same seat in the US Senate, for whose election incumbent Harry Reid will not run again in 2016 . She competed in the Republican primary against the previous Congressman Joe Heck , who was favored by the party leadership , but was subject to this.

Political positions and controversies

Angle denies the existence of global warming . Their baseless claims about the town of Dearborn , Michigan and the US- Canada border met with a response . She claimed that Islamic Sharia law was the law in Dearborn . Dearborn Mayor John B. O'Reilly, Jr. dismissed this claim as being untrue. Angle alleged that the terrorists who carried out the attack on September 11, 2001 , entered the Canadian border. The Canadian Ambassador to the United States, Gary Doer , urged them to withdraw this untrue claim.
