Erik Manuel Lamela (born March 4, 1992 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine football player . He is under contract with the English club Tottenham Hotspur .
Career
society
Lamela began playing football at his hometown club River Plate when he was a young boy. In 2004, at the age of just twelve, FC Barcelona wanted to sign him for his youth academy La Masia ; Lamela declined the offer, however.
On June 13, 2009 Lamela made his debut in the Clausura of the Primera División in the 3-1 win over CA Tigre . This was his only use in this half series and he was only used once in the Apertura 2009/10. It was not used regularly in the 2010/11 Apertura until September 2010. He scored his first goal for River Plate on December 5, 2010 with the 1-1 equalizer against CA Colón . With the establishment in the professional squad, the interest of numerous European top clubs fell on him again. According to press reports, he had offers from AC Milan , Chelsea FC , Real Madrid and Bayern Munich .
Despite two average half-series in 2010 and 2011, which the record champions River Plate finished in midfield, the club had to go into relegation due to the poor performance in the previous two seasons , in which the team failed at CA Belgrano and thus for the first time had to go to the Nacional B in the 110-year history of the club . Lamela, who was on the pitch in both relegation games, left River Plate after relegation to Europe and signed a five-year contract with Serie A club AS Roma .
Lamela played for Roma for the first time on October 23, 2011 (8th match day) against US Palermo and scored the decisive goal for the 1-0 victory after just eight minutes. In the last 16 of the Coppa Italia against Fiorentina , he contributed two goals in the 3-0 win. In his first season 2011/12 he made 29 appearances (4 goals), in 2012/13 he scored 15 goals in 33 games. In 2013 AS Roma was also able to reach the final of the Coppa Italia , Lamela was also used in the final, which however was lost 0-1 against city rivals Lazio Rome .
On August 30, 2013 Lamela moved to the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur . According to media reports, the transfer fee should have been around 30 million euros, making it the most expensive purchase in the history of the Spurs club . Lamela made his Premier League debut on September 1, 2013 against Arsenal , and played his first international match on September 19, 2013 in the UEFA Europa League group match against Tromsø IL .
National team
Lamela has already been used in various junior national teams in Argentina. With the U-20 selection , he took part in the 2011 U-20 World Cup in Colombia . He scored three goals in four games, plus a converted penalty in the penalty shoot-out in the quarter-finals against Portugal, in which the Argentinians lost 4-5 to Lamela.
On May 25, 2011 he made his debut in a 4-2 win over Paraguay in the Argentine national team . He played from the start and was replaced when the score was 3-2 in the 58th minute.
