Marti Malloy

Martilou "Marti" Malloy (born June 23, 1986 in Oak Harbor , Washington ) is a judoka from the United States . In 2012 she won an Olympic bronze medal.

Career

The 1.61 m tall Marti Malloy mostly competed in the weight class up to 57 kilograms, the lightweight. Her first front placement in an international championship she succeeded in 2007 in the light middleweight division when she finished fifth at the Pan American Games . In 2008 she returned to lightweight. In 2010 and 2011 she lost in the final of the Pan American Championships against the Cuban Yurisleidy Lupetey . At the Judo World Championships 2011 she lost to the Brazilian Rafaela Silva in the semifinals , in the battle for bronze she lost to Corina Căprioriu from Romania. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Malloy won against the Portuguese Telma Monteiro , the Colombian Yadinys Amaris and the Russian Irina Sabludina . In the semifinals she lost to Corina Căprioriu, then won the battle for bronze against the Italian Giulia Quintavalle .

In 2013 Malloy lost in the final of the Pan American Championships against the Brazilian Rafaela Silva. Malloy and Silva met four months later in the final of the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro , and the Brazilian won again. In 2014 and 2015, Malloy then won the final of the Pan American Championships against Silva. At the Pan American Games 2015 , Malloy won the final over the Canadian Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard . A month later, the Canadian won the quarter-finals of the World Championships in Astana against Malloy, who finished in fifth place. In the final of the Pan American Championships in 2016, Malloy again won over Beauchemin-Pinard. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , Malloy lost her opening match against Lien Chen-ling from Chinese Taipei . In 2017 Malloy won bronze again at the Pan American Championships after losing to Beauchemin-Pinard in the semi-finals.
