Career

Career start and breakthrough in Sweden

Jönsson started playing football at Vikens IK in his hometown. In 2002, at the age of twelve, he moved to the youth division of the four-time Swedish champions Helsingborgs IF . Here he went through the individual youth teams and in 2007 drew the attention of those responsible at Svenska Fotbollförbundet to himself. On his debut in the Swedish U-17 national team on July 17 of that year, he scored the decisive goal for a 1-0 win over the Norwegian youth national team.

As a result, Jönsson stayed in the squad of the youth national teams and moved up to the professional squad of his club in early 2008. He made his first division debut on the first match day of the 2008 season when coach Bo Nilsson substituted him for Razak Omotoyossi shortly before the end of the game in the 3-0 away win at GIF Sundsvall . As a result, he was initially used irregularly as a substitute, before he advanced to the side of Henrik Larsson and René Makondele on the offensive of the club after Omotoyossi's move to the Saudi Arabian club Al-Nasr in the summer of that year . On matchday 22, he scored his first two goals in Sweden's elite series in a 4-3 away win at IFK Norrköping . After he got stuck in his club's attack, Jörgen Lennartsson and Tommy Söderberg , the selection coach of the Swedish U-21 national team , nominated him for the national team in 2009. In the 2-1 victory over the Belgian U-21 national team on March 31 of that year, he made his debut alongside two-time goalscorer Sebastian Rajalakso in the storm of the team.

Later in the year Jönsson had finally established himself as a regular in the attack of his club. Under coach Bo Nilsson , he played 26 games this season and led the club to eighth place in the 2009 season with eight goals this season . After Conny Karlsson took over as coach for the following season, he played for the championship title alongside Ardian Gashi , Erik Edman , Mattias Lindström and Erik Sundin . Even after Alexander Gerndts signed on as a regular player during the season, he contributed with six goals this season and eight assists to second place in the table behind Malmö FF . Nevertheless, the season was not without a title win, after the end of the season he was with the club in the final of the national cup. In the game against Hammarby IF he scored the decisive goal for the 1-0 success in the 80th minute of the game.

Change abroad

On August 29, 2011, VfL Wolfsburg signed Jönsson. He signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2015 and was shirt number 19.

On January 29, 2013 Jönsson moved to the 2nd Bundesliga on loan to FSV Frankfurt until the end of the season .

For the 2013/14 season he was awarded to the Danish first division club Aalborg BK . For the 2014/15 season , Jönsson was finally committed. In 2016 he was signed by Odense BK and played there until 2018. In 2019 he signed a contract in Thailand with the local top club Buriram United .
