Jonatan Berg (born June 9, 1985 in Torsby ) is a former Swedish football player . The former midfielder is the brother of Marcus Berg , who became the Allsvenskan top scorer in 2007 .
Career
Berg started playing football at IFK Velen. He came to IFK Göteborg in 2002 via Torsby IF . In 2005 he made his debut in the Allsvenskan and played nine times as a substitute during the season. After he could not prevail at the beginning of the second season, he was awarded to local rivals GAIS . There he played all but one game from the start. At the end of the season he returned, but did not make a breakthrough again in the following season. Therefore, he was awarded to the league competitor Trelleborgs FF in the summer . After returning to IFK Göteborg, he was initially able to play in the team and played eight of the first ten games of the season in the 2008 season - he was in the starting line-up in seven games. Subsequently, however, he was hardly considered by the coaching duo Jonas Olsson and Stefan Rehn . Therefore, he looked around for a new club and completed trial training at LASK Linz and LB Châteauroux .
In January 2009, Berg signed a contract with Gefle IF . Since his contract in Gothenburg had expired at the end of 2008, he was able to transfer free of charge. With his new employer, where he got the shirt number "23", he established himself at the beginning of the season under the coaching duo Per Olsson and Urban Hammar as a regular in midfield and ultimately played 21 of the 30 season games. Also at the beginning of the next season he was a regular in ten games; in the summer, the Italian club Taranto Sport expressed interest in a commitment. In July Berg signed a two-year contract with an extension option with the third division club, who had another Swede under contract with Thomas Magnusson .
In January 2012, Berg moved to the second division Varbergs BoIS in the Superettan , where he signed a one-year contract valid until the end of the season. With the newcomer, he kept the class on the side of Joakim Sjöhage , Jonas Lindberg , Gabriel Altemark-Vanneryr and Patrik Larsson in eleventh place in the table, but his contract was not extended. After he was then without a club, he convinced in early March in a trial session with third division club IK Sirius , where he was praised by coach Kim Bergstrand in particular for his experience and understanding of the game and signed a two-year contract.
