Urban Hammar (born August 12, 1961 in Falköping ) is a former Swedish football player who temporarily worked as a coach. He is currently working in trainer training.

Career

Hammar started playing football at Lerdala IF before joining Örebro SK in 1983 via IS Heimer . Parallel to his studies at the Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan , he ran for the club in the second division in the following years . In 1984 he failed with the team only through two defeats in the promotion games to Allsvenskan at Mjällby AIF . In 1987 he moved to AIK in the Allsvenskan. In March, he was injured during a preparation game when he broke his arm in a 3-1 win over IF Brommapojkarna . After his recovery, he made his first division debut on May 28 of that year in a 0-0 draw against IK Brage . The week after the game he developed an irregular heartbeat, so he decided to retire from his active career.

Hammar moved to the coaching bench and took over the third division club Karlslunds IF . He then looked after the lower-class clubs Fjugesta IF and Arboga Södra IF and took on tasks at the regional football association Örebros. In 1995 he returned to Karlslunds IF, with whom he was relegated to fourth division in the second season . He then moved on to KB Karlskoga . In 1998 he was promoted to the third division and despite relegation a year later he ended his engagement.

In 2001 Hammar returned to Örebro SK and subsequently worked in the club's youth division. In 2005 he took over the club's second division team with Patrick Walker . After two seasons he left ÖSK again and moved to Svenska Fotbollförbundet as a Riksinstructor . There he was responsible for coach training and player development. In the summer of 2007 he returned coach to ÖSK after Patrick Walker had been fired. At the end of the season he was able to manage relegation. After he was not committed as head coach beyond the season, he returned to the association. For the 2009 season he signed a contract with Gefle IF . In cooperation with Per Olsson as a coaching duo, he held the club for the first time in the club's history for a long time in the first division, whereby in the 2010 season relegation was only secured in the relegation games against GIF Sundsvall . A few weeks after the end of the season, however, he left the club and returned to the Swedish Association as a Riksinstructor for coach training.
