Thomas Magnusson (born January 25, 1978 in Helsingborg ) is a Swedish football player . The central defender , who has played his career in Sweden and Italy so far, joined the Swedish national team in 2001 .

Career

Magnusson started playing football at Stavstens IF . In 1996 the defender moved to Trelleborgs FF . For the club he ran in the Allsvenskan and played through constant performances in the squad of the Swedish national team. On February 1, 2001 Magnusson came to his only international appearance for Sweden. With a selection team composed mainly of newcomers like Benjamin Kibebe , Martin Ulander , Kennedy Bakırcıoğlu or Mathias Florén , he lost 1-0 to Finland with a goal by Timo Marjamaa .

At the end of the 2001 season , Magnusson had to relegate his club to the Superettan , to which he was loyal in the second division. In the second division season 2003 he managed to return to the top class with the team. After a season in the upper house, in which he was used as a regular in 22 of the 26 season games, his contract with the club was no longer extended. The free transfer player was then presented with offers, including from Arminia Bielefeld's German Bundesliga .

After a few unsuccessful trial training sessions, Magnusson joined the third division team Höllvikens GIF . After one season he moved up a class and ended up with the second division IFK Norrköping , where he signed a three-year contract. As a regular player in defense, he contributed in the 2007 season to the second division championship and thus to the return of the club to the Allsvenskan. Also in the first division he was part of the regular staff for much of the season, but could not prevent the direct relegation as bottom of the table.

After his contract with IFK Norrköping ended, Magnusson left the relegated team and hired IK Sleipner , who had been promoted to Division 1. With the team, he surprised as a climber in the third division season 2009 and, as third in the table, narrowly missed the march into the Superettan. Through his personal acquaintance with a player's agent, contact was made with the Italian club Taranto Sport . He signed a contract with the third division team in January 2010 with a term of two and a half years, but since he had a valid contract with IKS, he had to pay the transfer fee out of pocket. At his new club, which signed another Swede with Jonatan Berg , he was not used and in the summer of the year the club dissolved his contract. When he left Norrköping, he said that he no longer wanted to run for IK Sleipner due to the circumstances surrounding the club's insistence on a transfer fee, which he had ultimately paid himself, but he returned in March 2011 after the unfortunate stay in Italy and one Period of non-association back to the club. There he was in the squad for one season and was seventh in the table of the southern season of Division 1 with the third division side.
