Jacob Mulenga (born February 12, 1984 in Kitwe , Zambia ) is a Zambian football player.
Club career
Mulenga started with the Zambian third division side Afrisports FC , which he helped in the 2003 season with 32 league goals for promotion to the second highest division. In December 2003, he and his compatriot Collins Mbesuma completed a trial training at Stade Rennes , but neither of them could recommend each other. He was also able to confirm his good performances in the second division and scored four times on the first three match days. In the summer of 2004 he completed a three-week trial training with Billy Mwanza at SC Bastia . There, too, both players could not recommend themselves for a contract, but Mulenga got a four-year contract with French second division club LB Châteauroux and thus became the second Zambian after Andrew Tembo in 1994 at Olympique Marseille in a French professional league.
On his league debut on August 24, 2004 Mulenga scored both goals for Châteauroux in a 2-0 win over Niort. In the following years he was repeatedly thrown back by injuries and came in his first season in France only to 15 missions. In the following two seasons he was able to increase the number of his missions significantly (2005/06: 25, 2006/07: 38) without, however, significantly increasing the number of his hits. In August 2007 he was loaned to the first division team Racing Strasbourg for a year .
In the summer of 2014 Mulenga moved to the Turkish TFF 1st Lig to the southern Turkish representative Adana Demirspor . After one season he moved to Shijiazhuang Ever Bright in the Chinese Super League . Since 2018 he has played for the second division club Liaoning Hongyun .
National team career
Jacob Mulenga made his debut in May 2004 against Sudan after his strong performances in the second division in Zambia. In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup, Mulenga scored the goal of the day against the eventual World Cup participant Togo in the opening game of the group stage. With third place in the final table they did not qualify for the World Cup, but before the Republic of Congo and Mali they qualified for the 2006 African Cup . Due to an injury, he missed the final round, but was two years later at the African Cup of Nations 2008 in Zambia and scored the goal in the opening game against Sudan to lead 2-0 (final score 3-0).
