Börje Forsberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stig Börje Forsberg (born June 22, 1944 - September 14, 2017 ) was a Swedish label owner, drummer and music producer, also known as Boss . He is the father of Thomas Forsberg, better known as Quorthon , and has been running the Swedish independent label Black Mark Production since 1991 .

Life

Börje Forsberg, who grew up in Stockholm, earned his first living as a bicycle courier for a delicatessen shop. He later became a service worker at Svenska Dataregister , a manufacturer of cash registers and accounting systems. He then became a seaman and worked for shipping companies and oil companies.

In the early 1960s he discovered his love for music and became a drummer. He played in various Swedish beat bands , including The Telstars and The Ghost Riders , together with Hans Edler . In the spring of 1965 he completed the Swedish military service .

In 1966 his first son Thomas Forsberg was born, who would later become a black metal pioneer and whose family relationship to Bathory's active years they kept secret despite numerous rumors.

In the 1960s he trained as a psychiatric nurse and from 1970 worked at the Beckomberga Clinic. At the same time he worked for Hans Edler's Marilla label, having previously completed an internship at Tyfon Grammofon . Shortly afterwards he returned to this label as a music producer and produced some pop and hit records up to around 1989. It is thanks to him that Bathory found their place on the legendary Scandinavian Metal Attack sampler in 1984 .

While Forsberg then produced his son's work under the pseudonym "The Boss", he was initially not involved with other metal bands. However, he took care of the exclusive distribution of SPV in Sweden and thus came into contact with Noise International . In this role he commuted between Sweden, the USA and Berlin. Around 1991 he finally founded Black Mark Production and, in addition to Bathory, also produced bands such as Edge of Sanity , Cemetary , Lake of Tears and Nightingale . With his label he released more than 500 metal albums.

After a rapidly increasing initial phase with offices in Canada, Berlin and England, the company ran into financial difficulties at the beginning of 2000, as SPV, its exclusive distributor, were on the verge of bankruptcy. To avert bankruptcy, his second wife, Klaudia Scharein-Forsberg, founded Black Mark AG and a web service. In 2003 Black Mark was able to re-establish itself as a brand, but AG and web service could not be closed until 2007. In 2004 the company began to enter the digital business and also anticipated the vinyl boom.

At the same time, Börje Forsberg's health deteriorated, which had a decisive influence on the years up to his death. In addition, there was the loss of his son, who suddenly and unexpectedly died of heart failure in 2004.

He left behind his second wife Klaudia Scharein-Forsberg, who currently runs Black Mark's business, and his daughter Jennie Tebler , who sang at Lake of Tears , among others .
