Furbowl was a Swedish metal and rock band from Växjö that was founded in 1991 and split up around 1996 under the name Wonderflow .

history

The band was formed in 1991 by guitarist, singer and bassist Johan Liiva-Axelsson and drummer Max Thornell. In the same year, the first demo was released The Nightfall of Your Heart , which was produced by Mike Amott . Amott played the electric guitar in two songs. Electronic drums were used on the album . Then briefly the guitarist Anders and the bassist Aron joined the cast. Through the demo, the group reached a contract with Step One Records , which in 1992 released the album Those Shredded Dreams . The publication was followed by appearances in Belgium and Germany . In addition, the release of a single via Cenotaph Records was planned, which could not be realized due to the closure of the label. The second album, The Autumn Years, followed in 1994 . Keyboardist and guitarist Nicke Stenemo joined the band before the recordings. In 1993 Liiva-Axelsson left the band and was replaced by guitarist Per Jungberger. In 1995 the band changed their name to Wonderflow after separating from Black Mark Production and switching to MNW . The group released the EP 20th Century Egyptian in 1996 and then broke up. In 2008, the 1994 cast went to the studio to re-record older songs. In October 2009, the band's debut album was re-released via Vic Records .

style

According to Janne Stark in The Heaviest Encyclopedia of Swedish Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Ever! the band plays on The Autumn Years Death Metal with slight borrowings from Gothic Metal. Even Daniel Ekeroth assigned to the band the Death and gothic metal in his book. The band later devoted themselves to death rock and anticipated the style of Entombed from the mid-1990s. After that, they devoted themselves to a style that was similar to psychedelic rock. Gregor Arndt from Metal Hammer stated in his review of The Autumn Years that the band has been placing more emphasis on groove since Those Shredded Dreams . The band can be described between Entombed, a faster version of Cathedral and Xysma . The material is now less hard and can only be assigned to Death Metal to a limited extent. Jon Kristiansen wrote in Metalion: The Slayer Mag Diaries that on The Nightfall of Your Heart the band played a mixture of Dismember and Paradise Lost with Gothic Metal influences. According to Martin Popoff in his book The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 3: The Nineties , the band on The Autumn Years is a death metal version of the rock band Terrorvision . In addition to atonal singing, which is reminiscent of Paradise Lost, there is also clear singing . In addition, a rock 'n' roll influence can be heard. In the song Still Breathing you can hear influences from Gothic Metal and Country .
