history

Fleshcrawl was founded in the spring of 1987 by Stefan Hanus and Bastian Herzog under the name Morgöth and renamed Suffocation in 1990. After the first demo Festering Flesh , the band renamed themselves Fleshcrawl due to the first vinyl release of the American band Suffocation ; Under this name she released a 7 "EP called Lost in a Grave on Morbid Records in 1991. A year later, Fleshcrawl signed a recording contract with Black Mark Production . There, in 1992, her debut album Descend into the Absurd was released , which was released at the Montezuma Studios in Stockholm Shortly afterwards guitarist Gero Schmitt left the band and was replaced by Mike Hanus.In 1993 the second album Impurity was recorded in Dan Swano's Unisound studio.

In 1995 the band played on the Easter Bash tour with Deicide , Cathedral and Brutal Truth . This was followed by the third album Bloodsoul in 1996 and Bloodred Massacre in 1997 ; both albums were recorded at Peter Tägegren's Abyss Studios. Bloodred Massacre was the first album with the new singer Sven Gross, who took the place of Alex Pretzer.

In 1998 Tobias Schick took over the long vacant position of bassist. After the release of Bloodred Massacre , Fleshcrawl left Black Mark Production, went on a four-week European tour with Vader and Kataklysm and played at some festivals with bands such as Cannibal Corpse or Dark Funeral .

Returning from the tour, Fleshcrawl signed a contract with Metal Blade Records and released As Blood Rains from the Sky - We Walk the Path of Endless Fire in 2000 , which was recorded at Fredman Studios in Gothenburg. In June 2000 the band went on a European tour again, this time for 25 appearances with Vader and Vital Remains . Individual shows and various festival appearances followed (including at the Czech Dynamo Festival and the Summer Breeze ).

In January 2001 Fleshcrawl accompanied the British band Bolt Thrower on their five-show short tour through Germany and the Netherlands. In the months that followed, Fleshcrawl focused on songwriting for their next release, Soulskinner . They also played the Torture Tour in June as a support act for Six Feet Under and in August 2001 they performed at Party.San Open Air. In September 2001 Fleshcrawl produced the album in the underground studio in Västerås / Sweden; Soulskinner was featured live on a four-week tour with Bolt Thrower and Benediction in January 2002.

After a few individual shows in Germany and Europe in spring and summer 2002, Fleshcrawl played at the Wacken Open Air 2002. This show was also the debut of the new guitarist Oliver Grbavac, who replaced founding member Stefan Hanus, who had to leave the band for personal and private reasons. In autumn 2002 Fleshcrawl played at the Westfalenfestival in Dortmund, among other places. Another premiere took place in November 2002: Fleshcrawl toured Japan for the first time as support for Hypocrisy . Upon their return, the band began songwriting for their next album. For this reason, there were only a few live performances in 2003. In November 2003 the album Made of Flesh was recorded in the Underground Studio. After its release, Fleshcrawl went on a European tour with label colleagues from Six Feet Under and Criminal to promote the album accordingly. The band also played on the big festival stages of the following festival season, including the Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, Party.San and the Metalcamp in Tolmin / Slovenia. In 2009 Fleshcrawl headlined the rather small Destroyed World Festival .
