Career
society
Semak, who was born near Luhansk, graduated from the local football boarding school before starting his professional career in the Russian third division in 1992. His first club that year was Presnja Moscow , but towards the end of the year he also played briefly for another third division club ( Karelija Petrozavodsk ) before he returned to his first club for the 1993 season - meanwhile first-class and renamed Asmaral Moscow . In 1993 he also made his debut in the highest Russian league , but in 1993 was mainly used in the club's third-rate second team. After a convincing season in 1994, the Moscow club ZSKA became aware of Semak and signed him after the relegation of his previous club. During his time at CSKA he matured very quickly into a leading player, in his third season in 1996 he was captain of the team, which, however, was always in the shadow of city rivals Spartak and Lok in the 1990s, and the club only played seriously at the beginning of the new millennium the championship with. He was involved in the greatest success in the club's history - winning the 2005 UEFA Cup , but left the club before the final to play abroad for the first time in his career. However, Semak could not really assert himself at the top French club Paris Saint-Germain and left the club for Moscow after a mixed year in 2005. This time he was signed by the smallest of the capital's first division, FK Moscow . After two more years he went to Rubin Kazan , which he led as captain to two championships in a row. On August 5th, Semak announced his move to Zenit St. Petersburg . Zenit paid three million euros as a transfer.
National team
After three appearances in the Russian U-21 team , he was appointed to the Russian A team for the first time in 1997 , but remained a pure supplementary player for a long time, rarely playing a full 90 minutes, so he was part of the Russian team for the However, the 2002 World Cup remained unused. In qualifying for the 2004 European Championship , Semak was used more often, but was no longer taken into account for the 2004 European Championship squad . When Semak was only used in five games in 2005 and 2006 and the Russian national coach Hiddink , who was new after the 2006 World Cup, relied heavily on a fresh start with young players, his international career was already over when Hiddink surprisingly added him to the squad for the Called EM 2008 and made him captain for the competition.
Trainer
After end of his career acted Semak from the beginning of 2014, first as assistant coach of Luciano Spalletti at Zenit St. Petersburg. When Spalletti was dismissed on March 11, 2014 due to persistent unsuccessfulness, especially in the Russian championship, Semak moved up as an interim coach and then worked as an assistant coach for both Zenit and the Russian national team until 2016. In December 2016 he became the head coach of FK Ufa , which he led to a 6th place in the table in the 2017/18 season and into the qualifying round for the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League . Since May 2018 he has been the head coach of Zenit St. Petersburg.
