Douglas Santos , with full name Douglas dos Santos Justino de Melo (born March 22, 1994 in João Pessoa ), is a Brazilian soccer player who is under contract with Zenit St. Petersburg . The left foot is mostly used as a left back, but can also act in the central midfield.
Career
societies
Santos began his career in the youth team of Náutico Capibaribe . Here he made the leap into the professional squad in 2012. On July 19, 2012, he ran in the Série A against the AA Ponte Preta by substitution in the 80th minute. He scored his first professional goal in the second leg against the same club on October 11, 2012. In 2013, he was signed by Granada CF and loaned directly to Udinese Calcio . Here he played until mid-2014, after which he returned to Brazil and joined Atlético Mineiro .
On August 31, 2016, Santos moved to the German Bundesliga club Hamburger SV , with whom he received a five-year contract dated June 30, 2021. He made his Bundesliga debut on matchday 3 in the 4-0 defeat at home against RB Leipzig . He scored his first Bundesliga goal on March 17, 2018 (27th matchday) in a 2-1 defeat in the home game against Hertha BSC with the opening goal in the 25th minute. At HSV, the defender was part of the core workforce for most of the time and finally relegated to the second Bundesliga with the team in the spring of 2018 , the immediate promotion was missed. He scored two goals in 80 league games for HSV.
For the 2019/20 season, Santos moved to the Russian first division club Zenit St. Petersburg . He signed a contract with the reigning champions that ran until June 30, 2024. In his first season, Santos won the national championship title with Zenit. With the club he was able to win the championship and the cup in his first season .
National team
Douglas Santos was part of the U21 team that won the Toulon tournament in 2013 and 2014 . Lucas Silva , who has since played for Real Madrid and Olympique Marseille , was also part of the team in 2014.
Santos was appointed to the Olympic selection squad for the 2016 Olympic Football Tournament . He played all six tournament games of his team and won the gold medal with her .
