Juri Walentinowitsch Schirkow ( Russian Юрий Валентинович Жирков ; English Yuri Zhirkov ; scientific transl. Jurij Valentinovič Žirkov ; born August 20, 1983 in Tambow , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian football player who plays on the left wing as well as on the offensive can be used on the full-back position.
Career

He began his career in his hometown with Spartak Tambov . In 2004, Yuri Schirkow signed a contract with the capital club CSKA Moscow . In the league, Schirkow's team ended up in fourth place without a goal by himself. In the 2015/16 season , Schirkow only played in the first half of the season for Dynamo.
In January 2016, Schirkow moved to Zenit St. Petersburg , where he was in the starting line-up in the first game. He also won the Russian Cup with Zenit. In the following season, Zenit played in the Europa League , where the team was even first in the group, but was eliminated in the second round. In the league Schirkow finally made a goal again. In the following season he was again in the Europa League with his team . Also this year they took first place in the group. In the last sixteen it was over against Leipzig . In the 2018/19 season he suffered a long Achilles heel injury and was out for a long time. The following season should go much better again. He scored two goals in 17 games up to the corona pandemic and played with Zenit in the Champions League .
National team
At the European Football Championship in 2008 he was a member of the Russian national team and was a member of the 23-player UEFA All-Star team. Since 2004 Schirkow completed 90 international matches and scored two goals. From then on he was at almost all major tournaments. In addition, Schirkow holds the curious record of 60 games without a goal as the only field player in the Russian national team.

Schirkow has three siblings, two brothers and a sister. Schirkow has been married to the former Miss Russia Inna Karetnikova since February 1, 2008 . The couple has two children, a son (* 2008) and a daughter (* 2010). In December 2008 Schirkow graduated from the Tambower State University .
In January 2005, Schirkow survived a serious car accident in his hometown of Tambov .
During the Russian presidential election campaign in 2012 , Shirkov was one of Vladimir Putin's “confidants” .
