Branislav "Bane" Ivanović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Бранислав Ивановић ; born February 22, 1984 in Sremska Mitrovica , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian football player who has been under contract with Zenit St. Petersburg since January 2017 . He was the captain of the Serbian national football team . His main position is that of the center- back , but he is also used as a right full-back or as a defensive midfielder .

Club career

FK Srem

Branislav Ivanović started his professional career in July 2002 with the Serbian second division club FK Srem from Sremska Mitrovica . At the age of 18 he made the leap from the youth team to the club's professional squad .

OFK Belgrade

One year later, Ivanović moved to the capital club OFK Belgrade in the SuperLiga , the highest football league in Serbia, on a free transfer . Ivanovic's offensive attitude and preference to opt out of its position of right full-back to tie, made sure that he often prepared goals and achieved. In a total of 73 missions, the defender managed to hit the opposing goal six times.

Moscow locomotive

The scouts of the traditional Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow also recognized his talent . In the winter transfer period of the 2005/06 season, they arranged a transfer of the player to the Russian metropolis for a transfer fee of one million euros . In 2007 the defender won the Russian Cup with Lok Moscow .

Chelsea FC

The Chelsea was agreed in January 2008 with Lokomotiv Moscow about the change of the player. Roman Abramowitsch's club brought the young Serb to London's Stamford Bridge for four and a half years and an assumed transfer fee of £ 8.9 million (approx. € 12.2 million) . He made his competitive debut for Chelsea only eight months after his commitment on September 24, 2008 in the Carling Cup against Portsmouth FC . The league debut was Chelsea's 2-0 win against Aston Villa on October 5, 2008. He scored his first two goals in the Blues dress on April 8, 2009 in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool , both with a header a corner kick. In April 2013 Ivanović was bitten by his opponent Luis Suárez in a game against Liverpool . Suarez was sentenced to 10 games. In the final of the Europa League 2012/13 against Benfica Lisbon , he scored the winning goal in the last minute of stoppage time, also headed from a corner, which secured his team the title.

National team

On May 27, 2004 Ivanović made his debut in the jersey of the Serbian-Montenegrin U-21 selection at the European Championship 2004 in Germany in the game against the Croatian team . Ivanović came on after half- time and scored the decisive 3-2 winning goal for the Serbs in the 86th minute. Thanks to his excellent style of play, he secured a regular place in the national team and was on the pitch at the 2004 European Championship finals in Bochum's Ruhrstadion right from the start.

Bane was named captain of the national team by the coach after just a few games . This was followed by further participation in the U21 European Championship games in 2006 in Portugal and 2007 in the Netherlands , where Ivanović was runner-up with the Serbian U-21 selection.

Ivanovic's debut in the A-team of the Serbian-Montenegrin Football Association took place on 8 June 2005 at the friendly match against Italy in the Canadian Toronto . The first competitive game played Bane on September 8, 2007 in the qualifying game for the European Championship 2008 against Finland (for the first time for the Serbian national team , since the alliance of Serbia and Montenegro broke up). Javier Clemente started Ivanović and left him on the pitch for the entire season.

Just four days later, on September 12, 2007, Ivanović scored the 1-1 equalizer in the final minutes in the game against Portugal and thus kept Serbia in the fight for qualifying for the 2008 European Championship. In 2009 they qualified for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Serbia was eliminated in the preliminary round, but Ivanović played all three preliminary round matches. He was also able to qualify for the finals with Serbia at the 2018 World Cup ; Serbia was eliminated again after the preliminary round matches, of which Ivanović completed the first two.
