history

Estádio dos Aflitos

On April 7, 1901, the Clube Náutico Capibaribe was founded. It emerged from two rowing boat clubs that merged. In 1905 the football department was launched, in which only English players were allowed. It was forbidden for dark-skinned people to join the club. At that time the club was called "The Club of the Rich".

From 1963 to 1968 Náutico won the Campeonato Pernambucano six times in a row . In 1968 one took part in the Copa Libertadores . With one win (against Deportivo Galicia from Venezuela), two draws and three defeats, the team was eliminated in the preliminary round. From a sporting point of view, they would have been qualified for the next round, but suffered two points deducted due to a mistake in the 3: 2 against Deportivo Portugués from Venezuela, which instead reached the quarter-finals.

In 2005, the team was close to being promoted back to the top division. However, in the decisive game against Gremio Porto Alegre, two penalties for Náutico were not converted and four players from the team were sent off. Ultimately, Gremio won the game.

2006 succeeded after twelve years of promotion to the first division, the Série A , after a 2-0 win against Ituano . Until 2009, when Náutico was penultimate in front of rivals Sport Recife , the class could be held. In 2007, the Uruguayan striker Acosta was the runner-up top scorer in Série A with 19 goals. In 2011 Náutico succeeded as second division second in the renewed rise.

Stadion

The club plays its home games in the Estádio Eládio de Barros Carvalho Stadium, usually called Estádio dos Aflitos after the district in which it is located, which has a total capacity of almost 20,000 spectators. It was opened in 1939.
