Jorge Pinto Mendonça

Jorge Pinto Mendonça (born June 6, 1954 in Silva Jardim , Rio de Janeiro , † February 17, 2006 in Campinas , São Paulo ) was a Brazilian football player .

The most successful period of his career, during which he scored 375 goals, the striker experienced in the 1970s and 1980s. He played with Náutico Capibaribe (1973–76), Palmeiras São Paulo (1976–79) and Guarani FC (1980–84) , among others . In 1978 he took part in the World Cup for the Seleção , the Brazilian national team; he didn't score a goal in six games, but was so convincing with precise passes and playful strength that Zico was not used. His career ended with financial and family troubles that he seemed slow to get under control. In the last years of his life he got involved in a children's aid project.

Mendonça died of a heart attack .
