Alan "Skill" Cole (born October 14, 1950 in Kingston ) is a retired Jamaican soccer player .
Life
Alan Cole was born in downtown Kingston and raised an only child in a working-class neighborhood of Woodford Park. His father, Alan Cole Sr, had a great influence on his athletic development. As a very sporting man, he was Cole's greatest motivator. From him he learned to play football and gained knowledge of famous athletes. In 1962 Cole went to a sports school and because of his exceptional talent in 1964 to a campion college for a year. In the school team, he made it to the top scorer in 1965 with 38 goals.
Player career

Cole played two seasons for the Atlanta Chiefs in the fledgling US soccer league. During a friendly game for the "Red Brigades" against Náutico Capibaribe , the Brazilian football clubs noticed him. He then became a star in his native Jamaica, as he was allowed to play in Brazil for Náutico Capibaribe from the coastal city of Recife . He met players like Francisco Marinho there . The striker then returned to Jamaica and played for the Jamaican club Santos FC . This team gained attention when it beat the US club New York Cosmos , which had players like Pelé and Werner Roth in its ranks, in 1975 at Jamaica's National Stadium . In December 1977, Cole went to Ethiopia to join the Ethiopian Airlines team for three years.
National team
Cole made his debut for the Jamaican national team at the age of 16, making him the youngest national player in his country to this day.
Coaching career
After his active football career, Cole worked in the coaching business. Among other things, he worked in this position for West Kingston's Seba United.
Trivia
- Cole was a close friend of world-famous reggae musician Bob Marley , and an excellent soccer player himself. Cole founded his own label Tuff Gong in 1971 together with Marley and gave it to Marley's bandmates Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer 33% and 34% to Marley himself. He later credited Cole with the composition of some of his songs, which Cole enjoyed came from royalties. Cole later accompanied Marley during his tours until his death.
- In 1974, Cole dropped out of Nautica after two gaming seasons because management wanted him to cut his dreadlocks.
- In October 2010, Cole received an award from the Jamaican Football Association, in the presence of Fifa President Sepp Blatter , in recognition of his services to football in Jamaica.
