Career

Bunny Wailer, like Bob Marley, grew up in the village of Nine Miles . They were best friends since Bunny was nine and both later moved with their families to Trenchtown , Kingston. Bunny's father had a child with Bob's mother, which also created a connection between the two. Together they learned to make music with self-made instruments, and one day Peter Tosh joined them. The three of them had their first hit Simmer Down in 1964 (for Coxsone Dodd 's Studio One label ). In addition to Peter and especially Bob, Bunny also sang the voice of some songs, for example Dreamland or Dancing Shoes .

Like Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer left the Wailers in 1974 to embark on a solo career. His debut album was Blackheart Man , a masterpiece of roots reggae , which is regarded by connoisseurs as a reggae classic. Bunny Wailer produced most of his albums on his own music label Solomonic Records Ltd.

Bunny Wailer is the last survivor of the Original Wailers, and he still plays concerts all over the world.

In 1991 he won a Grammy in the category Best Reggae Recording with Time Will Tell - A Tribute To Bob Marley , further Grammys followed in 1995 and 1997 with Crucial! Roots Classics and Hall Of Fame - A Tribute To Bob Marley's 50th Anniversary , each in the Best Reggae Album category.

In 2012 he was awarded the Order of Jamaica , the fourth highest order in the country, for his pioneering contribution to the musical development of Jamaica . In October 2017 he was awarded the Order of Merit , the third highest order in the country.
