Order of Merit (Jamaica)
The Order of Merit is a Jamaican order . It can be awarded to Jamaican citizens who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of science, art, culture or other achievements. Foreign citizens can be made honorary members. Originally, the Order of Merit was an order introduced by the Jamaican Parliament on July 18, 1969 with the National Honors and Awards Act , which was awarded to foreign heads of state and government as the third highest order in Jamaica until the Order of Excellence was newly created for it in 2002 .
The Order of Merit is awarded to a maximum of two people per year and the number of members should remain limited to 15 people, not counting honorary members from abroad. The motto of the order is " He that does truth comes into the light " (German: " Whoever does the truth comes to the light "). The members are entitled to wear the order's emblem, the salutation for the members is " The Honorable ". They are also authorized to add the letters OM (so-called post-nominal ) to their names .
Medals
The medal of the Order of Merit consists of a six-armed, twelve-pointed star made of white enamel with a similarly shaped silver star on top of it, carried around the neck and held by a maroon, silk ribbon .
