The Order of Jamaica is a Jamaican order . It is the fourth highest order in the country and can be awarded to Jamaican citizens or, on an honorary basis, to foreign citizens. It was introduced by the Jamaican Parliament in 1969 with the National Honors and Awards Act .

The motto of the order is " For a covenant of the people " (German: " To the league of the people "). The members are entitled to wear the medal and the salutation for the members is " Honorable ". They are also authorized to add the letters OJ (so-called post-nominal ) to their names .

Medals

The medal of the Order of Jamaica is a gold badge with white enamel , which is worn on a collar made of dark green silk. On the outside are depictions of Ackee fruits and leaves, a Jamaican national symbol . In the middle is the Jamaican national coat of arms on a gold background, surrounded by the order's motto in gold letters on green enamel.
