Tuff Gong represents a series of endeavors by the late reggae musician Bob Marley and his family. The name of the label "Tuff Gong" was Bob Marley's nickname, which in turn refers to the well-known Rastafarian priest Leonard P. Howell , who was nicknamed "The Gong". Tuff Gong International operates its own recording studio , mastering rooms, a pressing plant for records , cassettes and CDs , a printing plant , sales rooms for sound carriers and its own artist agency as well as offices for Rita Marley Music and Ghetto Youths International.

Record label

Tuff Gong was founded as a record label in 1970 by Marley and his band The Wailers . The first single to be released on the label was "Run For Cover" by The Wailers. From 1973 Bob Marley's house at 56 Hope Road in Kingston , Jamaica was also the headquarters of the label. The Bob Marley Museum can now be visited there. The label is now managed by Marley's eldest daughter Cedella Marley and is still headquartered in Kingston.

The distribution of the Tuff Gong sound carriers was handled by Island Records , now part of the Universal Music Group . Tuff Gong is now the official distributor for the Warner Music Group , Universal Music Group and Disney Music Group in the Caribbean .

In the video game Grand Theft Auto IV by Rockstar Games , Tuff Gong can be selected as one of the many radio stations. The station mainly plays songs by Bob Marley and his sons Stephen and Damian Marley .

Recording studio

An extensively equipped recording studio has been the heart of Tuff Gong since it was founded. It is one of the largest studios in the Caribbean and the second largest live recording facility in Jamaica. The Tuff Gong Studios produced the album " Catch a Fire " and songs like " No Woman, No Cry ", " Trenchtown Rock ", " Stir It Up ", " Redemption Song ", " Buffalo Soldier " and " Could You" Be Loved ". This legendary recording studio attracts many interested musicians, producers and tourists from all over the world.

The Tuff Gong Studios were the contact point for many Jamaican musicians like Rita Marley , Capleton , Sly and Robbie , Shaggy , Bounty Killer , Lady Saw , Vybz Kartel , Popcaan , Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers , I Wayne , Beenie Man , Jimmy Cliff and many more.

International artists such as Snoop Dogg , Sinéad O'Connor , Kenny Chesney , Lauryn Hill , Self Defense Family , Tiken Jah Fakoly and Major Lazer have already recorded their music in the Tuff Gong Studios.
