content

Buffalo Soldier takes on the history of the Buffalo Soldiers . Here Marley particularly emphasizes the absurdity of the fact that the ex- slaves that had just been freed were used to kill and drive out Indians, and were also used for other American invasions, even though their ancestors themselves had been forcibly removed from their homeland to America .

It is repetitive the abduction of Africa and the deportation to America sung; Finally, Marley details the arrival in San Juan and finally his own home, Jamaica .

In contrast to his previous hits, Marley's band The Wailers was not directed by himself for this song, as he died before the song was completed and only left demos of the song of different lengths. So they wrote the instrument tracks as they thought Marley would have done. For this reason, there are also several versions of Buffalo Soldier .
