The Cuiabá Esporte Clube (often simply called Cuiabá ) is a Brazilian football club from Cuiabá in the state of Mato Grosso .

history

The club was founded in 2001 by former soccer player Luíz Carlos Tóffoli "Gaúcho" , who was also its first president.

After the club was able to win its first national championship title in 2003 and 2004, it had to cease playing in 2006 as a result of financial problems and the associated licensing difficulties. In 2009 he was able to compete in the second national league and celebrate his return to the first division after just one season. In the following year he was able to win the governor's cup and qualify for the Copa do Brasil for a national competition for the first time . In the meantime, the Cuiabá EC has established itself as a top team in the state of Mato Grosso and is in rivalry with the traditional local club Mixto EC .

As the national champion of 2011, the club qualified for the Série D of Brazil's national football championship, which he finished in the same year as third in the table and was thus able to commit to promotion to the Série C, in which he still plays today.

By winning the Copa Verde in 2015, the club won a regional title for the first time and qualified for an international competition, the CONMEBOL Copa Sul-Americana ( 2016 ) for the first time.
