The Mixto Esporte Clube , or MEC for short , is a Brazilian football club from Cuiabá in the state of Mato Grosso .

history

The association was founded in 1934 by a mixed group of women and men. The club name, the contemporary spelling for the word misto ("mixed") goes back to the diverse interests of the membership - for example in addition to sports also literature - and their composition.

With 24 championships won, the club is the record title holder in Mato Grosso, although Mixto has only won two titles since the early 1990s. The MEC took part in the national championship of Brazil nine times between 1976 and 1986 and was able to achieve an attractive 14th place in 1985, but was then relegated to the lower divisions. Later, most recently in 2013, the association for the input stage, that could Série C or later Série D qualify.

The most important player in the club's history is José Roque Paes "Traçaia" , who is also regarded as the most important player in Mato Grosso. In 1962 he was also one of the first two Brazilians to play in Austria and was runner-up and cup winner with FK Austria Wien . One of the streets around the square of the Arena Pantanal built for the 2014 World Cup was named after him.
