The Arena Pantanal is a football stadium in the Brazilian city of Cuiabá , capital of the state of Mato Grosso . It was the venue for four matches of the 2014 soccer World Cup , with a capacity of 41,112 spectators. It stands on the ground of the Verdão stadium , which was demolished in 2010 for the new construction. The stadium was officially opened on April 26, 2014.
The multifunctional arena was designed with a modular structure and can therefore be reduced in size again after the World Cup, e.g. B. by reducing the upper echelons.
One of the roads that circumscribes the stadium, the Rua Traçaia , named after José Roque Paes known as Traçaia , which as the largest player of the State of Mato Grosso applies and others in the 1960s as Jose Tracaia with Admira Vienna the Cup of Austria won .
At the beginning of 2017 it was decided to convert 75 rooms of the stadium complex into classrooms for educational institutions.
Problems
The stadium is rarely used because there is no national first division club in the entire state of Mato Grosso . The games that took place there on the occasion of the state championship of Mato Grosso 2015 attracted 12,318 viewers, which results in an average of 879 in 13 games.
When it rains there are problems with water ingress. Although it was known that in the rainy season, there are always cloudbursts in Cuiaba, which had not been taken into account in the project, the state secretary for strategic planning of the said state government , Gustavo de Oliveira .
From January 2015 the stadium will be closed for an unknown time due to repair work. Safety risks for the spectators are to be eliminated, defective elevator systems and air conditioning systems to be repaired.
