The Clube de Regatas Brasil , usually just called CRB for short , is a Brazilian sports club from Maceió , the capital of the north-east Brazilian state of Alagoas with around 1 million inhabitants . The colors of the club, founded in 1912, are red and white.

history

It was founded on September 20, 1912 by Lafaiete Pacheco , a former member of the Clube Alagoano de Regatas . Lafaiete Pacheco was dissatisfied with his old club and therefore founded the CRB.

In 1921 CRB moved into its own stadium. In 1927, the club won the title of State Champion of Alagoas in the first draw . To date, CRB has won this title a total of 27 times. The local rival with whom CRB shares dominance in the state, Centro Sportivo Alagoano , or CSA for short, has nine more successes in this competition these days (as of 2019).

A significant era in the club's history was the years from 1972 to 1981, when CRB was first class nationally six times in nine years . The club only succeeded in doing this in 1984 and 86.

Other sports

A variety of other sports such as basketball, handball and futsal are played at the CRB . The club's volleyball players achieved great success when they won the South American Cup in 1969.

Stadion

Estádio Severiano Gomes Filho

CRB played its home games until around 2006 at the club's own Estádio Severiano Gomes Filho , construction of which began in 1916, four years after the club was founded and which opened in 1921. The stadium is usually named Pajuçara after the neighborhood in which it is located and has a capacity of 6,000. The record attendance dates back to July 25, 1960, when Pelé attracted 8,000 spectators with FC Santos . CRB lost the game 6-0.

The stadium, named after a club president of the 1950s and 1960s, is currently undergoing extensive renovation and it is hoped that the old home ground will be able to compete again for the 2009 national championship.

Estádio Rei Pelé

For the time being, CRB is sharing the state-owned Estádio Rei Pelé with rival CSA , which is usually called Trapichão after the Trapiche da Barra district . The multi-purpose stadium was opened on November 25, 1970 with a game of a state selection against Santos, who traveled to with the namesake. The game was won by the guests 5-0 and the audience of 45,865 that day has not been reached since then.

The Trapichão was renovated until 1993 and was equipped with a small sports museum which is named after the hero of Alagoan football, the national player Edvaldo Santa Rosa , known as Dida . During the renovation, the stadium was fully equipped with seats and then held 26,000 spectators. Due to the design, the seats soon rusted through in the humid tropical climate. For cost reasons it was decided to remove the seats, which increased the stadium's capacity to 30,000.
