Copa Verde

The Copa Verde (Portuguese for Green Cup ) is a regional soccer cup competition in Brazil organized by the national soccer association CBF . Winning the cup means qualifying for the CONMEBOL Copa Sul-Americana for the following season.

history

The “green cup” was launched in 2014 by the state associations of the federal states of the North and Midwest regions, with the exception of the state of Goiás, and with the participation of the state of Espírito Santo from the southeast region . Up to 2015, 16 teams played in an elimination tournament for the cup. The national association of Goiás has also been taking part in the competition since the 2016 season, and the field of participants has been expanded to 18 teams. The final will be played in two games.
