The Região Sudeste ( Portuguese for Southeast region ) is one of five major statistical regions in Brazil . It includes the four states of Minas Gerais , Espírito Santo , Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo .

The Região Sudeste makes up 927,286 km² about 10.85% of the area of ​​Brazil; it is the second smallest of the five regions. The population was estimated at 85,115,623 in 2014, which corresponds to a share of about 42% of the total population of Brazil.
