society

Akinfejew has played in the first division for CSKA Moscow since the beginning of his professional career . In 2003, at the age of 17, he became the goalkeeper of the Central Sports Club of the Army . In the same year he became champion with CSKA. In the 2004/05 season he had the greatest success of his career so far, winning the UEFA Cup with CSKA. This was followed by further championships with CSKA in 2005, 2006, 2013, 2014, 2016. On October 23, 2016, he completed his 350th match in the Premjer League. Akinfejew overtook Valery Yessipov , who had 349 appearances for Rotor Volgograd , and is the player with the most appearances for a club in the top division.

In the European cup competitions he has so far (as of September 2013) made 74 appearances for CSKA, including one in the UEFA Super Cup final, 33 in the UEFA Champions League and 40 in the UEFA Cup.

National team

Akinfejew has been a regular member of the national team since 2004 . He made his debut on April 28, 2004 against Norway . At 18 years and 20 days was the youngest player in the Russian national team. Shortly thereafter, the goalkeeper took part in the 2004 European Championships in Portugal , where he was not used behind Sergei Ovchinnikow and Vyacheslav Malafeyev .

In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup in Germany , Akinfejew guarded the goal in seven of twelve games, but missed the final round with his team. Behind Portugal and Slovakia , the Russians were only third in their group. In May 2007 Akinfejew injured his knee. As a result, his place between the posts was contested by Vyacheslav Malafeyev and later by Vladimir Gabulov . During the European Football Championship in 2008 he again guarded the goal in all five tournament games of his team and the Russian team reached the semi-finals. At the European Championships in 2012 Akinfejew was a substitute goalkeeper behind Malafejew because of a lack of match practice and strong performances of his competitor and was not used.

He and his team took part in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil . Here Russia was eliminated in the preliminary round. Akinfejew made a mistake in the first game that led to the goal for South Korea. In the final and decisive game he made another mistake that equalized for Algeria. Shortly before, Akinfejew had been irritated by a laser pointer that a viewer had aimed at his eyes. The referee did not respond to Akinfeev's complaints. On March 27, 2015, Akinfejew was again the target of attacks by opposing supporters. In the European Championship qualifier against Montenegro , the goalkeeper was hit on the head by a fireworks after a few seconds and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The game was initially interrupted before the German referee Deniz Aytekin finally abandoned the game in the 67th minute.

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , Akinfejew was included in the Russian squad as number 1 in goal . In all three games of the group stage he was in goal, with Russia eliminated after a draw against England and defeats against Slovakia and Wales as bottom group. In November 2016 he was appointed captain of the national team by the new national coach Cherschessow . At the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia, he played his 100th international match in the second group match against Portugal on June 21 .

Akinfejew was part of the national team at the 2018 World Cup in Russia . In the round of 16 against Spain, he saved two penalties on penalties and was thus instrumental in Russia's entry into the quarter-finals.

A few months later, on October 1, 2018, Akinfejew announced the end of his work in the national team after a total of 111 games.
