List of cities in Russia |
Widnoje ( Russian Ви́дное ; scientific transliteration Vidnoe ) is a Russian city in Moscow Oblast . It is located near the southeastern border of the city of Moscow , about two kilometers south of the MKAD ring road , and has 56,752 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
history
Widnoje - literally translated "the visible", which should possibly indicate the location of the place high on the hills - emerged from a dacha settlement , which in turn was built from 1902 on the site of the former estate Widnoje. In 1949 the Datschensiedlung received the status of a workers' settlement and was expanded to include several residential quarters for the staff of a coking plant built nearby . On January 3, 1965, the settlement received city rights and at the same time became the administrative center of a Rajon within the Moscow Oblast.
Near the town is the former estate of the Gorky Leninsky settlement , where revolutionary leader Lenin died in 1924. The Rajon, whose center is Widnoje, is named after this.

Economy and Transport
In addition to the coking plant, which currently belongs to the Russian mining company Mechel , the industry in Widnoje is represented by a factory for metal structures, among other things. However, due to the city's proximity to Moscow, many residents of Vidnoye work there.
Widnoje is located on the Russian M4 trunk road ( European route E 115 ) from Moscow to Novorossiysk . Near the town and the railway highway Moscow-runs Lipetsk . The station belonging to Widnoje is called Rastorgujewo and is a stopping point for numerous local trains that connect the Pawelezer station in Moscow with cities such as Domodedovo or Kaschira . Urban public transport consists of omnibus and marshrutka lines that also connect Widnoje with Moscow. The city has also had a small trolleybus network since 2000.
