List of cities in Russia |
Aprelewka ( Russian Апре́левка ) is a city with 18,349 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in Moscow Oblast , Russia . It is located about 40 km southwest of the center of Moscow , but the urban area extends as far as Aprelewka. The northern neighboring city is Krasnosnamensk .
history
The place was built in 1899 on the simultaneously built important railway line from Moscow via Brjansk to Kiev . The town is named after the Aprelewka river, whose name, contrary to what is often assumed, has nothing to do with the month of April (Russian пре́лый (prely) - in German "rotten").
In 1910, the first larger record factory in Russia was founded in Aprelewka by the three German industrialists Gottlieb Moll, his son Johann Moll and August Kybart. Later this was nationalized after the October Revolution and for decades it was the central production facility of the state Soviet record monopoly Melodija .
In 1935 the village of Aprelewka and some neighboring villages became a workers' settlement. This received city rights in 1961. The record factory, which was badly damaged during the German air raids in World War II , was rebuilt after the end of the war with the help of German prisoners of war.
Economy and Infrastructure
After the dissolution of the Soviet Union , the record label Melodija lost its former importance and today has only a small market share in Russia. The record factory was closed in the mid-1990s, and the production rooms have been rented to smaller companies ever since. Today a record museum and a sports palace, which was inaugurated in January 2008 and named Melodija , reminds of the operation . Today there is still a chemical industry in the city and a few factories for food production.
An important road connection to the city is via the M3 Magistrale , which crosses the A107 ring road here . Aprelewka has a regional station on the Moscow - Bryansk railway line with regular train connections to the Kiev train station in Moscow.
