At the beginning of the 20th century, up to 10 million pairs of shoes were being produced here every year. When industry was forcibly nationalized in Taldom after the October Revolution , the place received city status in 1918. In addition, he was named Leninsk ( Ленинск ) in the same year , in honor of the revolutionary leader Lenin , who, however, had no personal connection to Taldom. In 1929 the city got its original name back.
Today the shoe and textile industry in Taldom still plays a relatively important role, because the industry is otherwise only represented here to a small extent.
