Tutschkowo ( Russian Тучково ) is a Russian urban-type settlement with 17,381 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in the western Moscow Oblast . It belongs to the Rajon (district) Rusa and is located about 80 km west of Moscow on the railway line Moscow - Smolensk .
history
Tutschkowo emerged from several villages that still belonged to the Tutschkows dynasty in the 18th century, which gives the city its name. In the middle of the 19th century they had a little over 700 inhabitants. In 1870 the railway line from Moscow to Smolensk was opened with a small stop called Mukhino , which was located in the village of the same name, which belonged to the Tuchkov family. In 1904, the previously insignificant stop was expanded to a train station and was now named Tutschkowo in honor of two representatives of this family who died in the Battle of Borodino in 1812 . The railway connection accelerated the development of the surrounding towns: in 1934 they were united to form a workers' settlement, which was given the status of an urban-type settlement . In the course of a territorial reform in the 2000s, the "urban settlement Tutschkowo" was formed in 2006.
