Krasnosnamensk ( Russian Краснознаменск ) is a closed city in Odintsovo Raion in Moscow Oblast , Russia . It is located about 40 kilometers southwest of Moscow and has 36,103 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010). Neighboring cities are Golitsyno and Aprelewka , the Rajon center of Odintsovo is around 30 km away.

The city was founded in 1951 as a workers' settlement and military base, has had city status since 1981 and was known as Golitsyno-2 until 1994, when it was given its current name (which literally means "Red Banner City") .
The city hosts the Titov - ground station of the Russian Space Forces , which has been symbolized in the coat of arms. The test center for Russian space systems is also located here. Due to the strategic importance of these objects, Krasnosnamensk has had the status of a closed city since it was granted city rights and can still only be entered by non-residents with a special permit.
The Russian highway M1 and the parallel railway line Moscow - Smolensk - Minsk (the nearest train station is the Shavoronki stop ) runs near the city .
