Roshal ( Russian Роша́ль ) is a city with 21,272 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in Russia . It is located in the eastern part of Moscow Oblast in the Meshchera Lowlands -Tiefebene, 150 km east of Moscow .
history
The place was created in 1916 and was initially called Krestow Brod ( Крестов Брод ) after a nearby swampy landscape. The reason for the establishment of the settlement was the construction of a gunpowder factory nearby. After the October Revolution of 1917, Krestow Brod was given its current name in honor of the marine and revolutionary Semyon Roshal . During the Soviet era, the powder factory became an important ammunition factory and in the 1980s it was expanded into a chemical combine, which for a long time shaped the place economically - since 1940 with town status. During the ongoing economic crisis of the 1990s, however, the company closed.

Economy and Transport
In the 1990s, industry in Roschal largely came to a standstill when the chemical combine was closed. In the vicinity of the city, the abundant peat in the eastern Moscow oblast is extracted and processed, and agriculture is practiced. Due to the scenic location in the middle of the forest and marshland of the Meschtschora, tourism has also been developing increasingly in Roshal and neighboring places.
The nearest train station is in the Cherusti settlement, 17 km away . There are connections with local trains to Lyubertsy and Moscow, among others .
