Lobnja ( Russian Ло́бня ) is a city in Russia with 74,252 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010). It is located in Moscow Oblast around 30 km north of Moscow . Sheremetyevo Airport , one of Moscow's three international airports, is located near Lobnya .
history
The place Lobnja was created in 1902 when the railway line Moscow - Dubna - Kimry was built , when a station with this name was built there. The name Lobnja comes from the river of the same name, whose name is of Baltic origin and is probably derived from lobas - river valley. In the course of the following decades, industry developed in the town and, not least because of its proximity to Moscow, numerous residential areas were built. During the Second World War , the area around Lobnja as the northern Moscow outpost was highly contested. In 1947 Lobnya received urban-type settlement status , and on December 18, 1961, town charter was granted.
