history

Blachernae Savior Monastery, cathedral with bell tower

Dedenewo was first mentioned as a village in 1504 and belonged to the Russian counts Golovin in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Golovins' estate was also located there. When the latter donated parts of their landowners to found a Russian Orthodox convent in the middle of the 19th century, a new property was built a little to the south (including the manor house based on a design by the well-known master builder Fjodor Schechtel , which has not survived today). In 1861 the monastery was founded, which was named Blachernae Savior Monastery ( Спасо-Влахернский монастырь ). The Savior Cathedral of this monastery, which still exists today, was built as a village church in 1811 and was expanded until the end of the 19th century, including 1886–1890 with a three-tier bell tower.

Shortly before the October Revolution in 1917, the monastery already had around 300 nuns. In 1922 the new Soviet power closed the monastery and installed a home for the disabled in its buildings. During the Second World War , Dedenewo, like most of the monastery buildings, was badly damaged in German bombing. After the monastery shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union the Russian Orthodox Church was returned, it was rebuilt 1993-2001 and is now used again as a convent.
