Bronnizy ( Russian Бро́нницы ) is an independent city with 21,102 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in the Moscow Oblast in Russia . It is located on the left bank of the Moskva River , 52 km southeast of Moscow . The closest town is Ramenskoye , 20 km north of Bronnitsy.

history

Mentioned for the first time as Bronnitschi in a written document from 1453, the village, located on a road from Moscow to Astrakhan in southern Russia, gained a certain importance towards the middle of the 17th century, when a large royal stables were built there under the rule of Tsar Alexei I. The depiction of a horse on the city's coat of arms reminds of this fact to this day.

In 1705, the stone Archangel Michael Cathedral, which has been preserved to this day, was built in Bronnizy. Thanks to its convenient location, the place was doing well economically, so that it received city rights as early as 1781. Several classical buildings in the city remind of that time. At the end of the 18th century several smaller factories were built in Bronnizy. The city ​​was badly damaged in the war against Napoleon in 1812 , but was able to catch up economically again in the 19th century.

Economy and Infrastructure

There are several smaller factories in the light and food industry in Bronnizy.

The city is located at the intersection of the M5 trunk road and the A107 ring road . There is a railway station called Bronnizy on the Moscow- Ryazan route. It is not in the city, but 13 km north.
