Potschta Rossii ( Russian Федеральное государственное унитарное предприятие (ФГУП) «Почта России» dt .: Post of Russia ) is the national postal service of Russia. It is headquartered in Moscow and is a member of the Universal Postal Union .
In 2013, the Potschta Rossii processed a total of 1.6 billion letters , 54 million parcels and carried out 75.4 million money transfers .
history
Russia was a founding member of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 . In 1902 the postal system was subordinated to the Russian Ministry of the Interior and in 1917 to the Ministry of Post and Telegraph under the Provisional Government . Around the time of World War II , the postal service was part of the People's Commissariat for Post and Telegraphs . After the collapse of the Soviet Union , the Russian Post was transferred to the Russian Post Ministry in 1993.
Reorganization as a state postal company
Potschta Rossii was founded in 2002 on the basis of the previous state postal authority, which belonged to the federal postal and telecommunications ministry. The spin-off as an independent company was part of the reform of the Russian postal system carried out in the same year, which included extensive restructuring and modernization measures. The reform was also necessary because in the course of the ongoing economic crisis in Russia in the 1990s, the postal system in some regions of the country had almost come to a standstill, which also caused numerous, especially rural, post offices to close.
At the beginning of the 2010s, Potschta Rossii had around 42,000 post offices nationwide and in 2011 employed a total of 391,944 people. The range of services was expanded in the course of the reforms; many post offices were equipped with public PC workstations with internet access. The prices for postal services are regulated by the Russian state.
In 2011 the Potschta Russii suffered losses of one billion rubles. This loss was due to widespread stamp forgery by a criminal organization.
On July 26, 2013, Potschta Rossii was fined 36,000 rubles (around 8,000 euros). The reason for this was that packages sent in a hurry were processed too slowly. In order to cope with the increasing parcel traffic, especially due to internet trading, two Tu-204 cargo planes for long-haul flights were purchased in 2016 to supplement the small aircraft fleet.
Foreign branch
The wholly owned subsidiary, RusPost GmbH, with its logistics center in Berlin-Marienfelde , is the only official branch of the Russian Post abroad. In May 2018, a branch of the Russian Post was opened as a central acceptance point in Berlin-Mitte in the previous porter's room of the Russian House of Science and Culture .
criticism
The Potschta Rossii was criticized by representatives of the Russian economy for working too slowly.
In addition, sudden, drastic price increases are criticized by consumers. In February 2010, for example, postage for letters was increased by 15 percent.
