Hedwig von Bredow

Hedwig von Bredow , b. von Stechow , also Hedwig von Bredow-Bredow (born December 19, 1853 in Kotzen , Westhavelland, † August 29, 1932 in Tsumeb , today Namibia ) was a German association functionary and traveler.

Life

Hedwig von Bredow was a daughter of Eduard von Stechow auf Kotzen and his wife Auguste, nee. by Voss from the house of Münte. Friedrich Ludwig von Stechow was her grandfather. On August 16, 1870 she married Wichard von Bredow auf Bredow (1841-1905). The marriage had four children.

Hedwig von Bredow gained importance from 1920 as long-time chairwoman of the women's association of the German Colonial Society in Berlin. Between 1908 and 1928 she made several extensive trips herself, including to India , East and South West Africa. In 1919 she participated in the reception of the returning East Africa troops in Switzerland. For her services in this regard, she was awarded the Cross of Merit and the Medal of the Swiss Government for the Welfare of Prisoners.

She died on a trip to South and South West Africa.
