Friedrich Ludwig von Stechow

Friedrich Ludwig von Stechow (born April 2, 1771 in Seehausen , † January 19, 1839 ) was a Prussian officer and holder of the order Pour le Mérite .

Life and family background

Friedrich Ludwig Wilhelm von Stechow was born on April 2, 1771 in Seehausen. He was the son of the king. Prussian colonel in the body cuirassier regiment Arend Friedrich von Stechow (1720–1782), Herr auf Kotzen (owned by the family since the 14th century) and Stechow II, and Dorothea Hildbrandt (1752–1811). Friedrich Ludwig von Stechow died in Kotzen on January 19, 1839. Since June 7, 1800 he was married to Karoline von der Reck (1772–1835).

Military career

Although heir to the estate, Friedrich Ludwig von Stechow entered the Prussian army as an officer candidate. He took part in the campaign of the coalition army against the troops of revolutionary France ( 1st coalition war from 1792 to 1795 ) and distinguished himself in the battle of 2/3. July 1794 especially at Trippstadt . He was therefore successfully proposed by Field Marshal Wichard von Möllendorf to King Friedrich Wilhelm II for the award of the Pour le Mérite order.

Friedrich Ludwig von Stechow continued to serve in the Prussian army and rose to the rank of colonel. After his service he managed his inherited goods Kotzen, where he died in 1839, Rhinsmühlen and Stechow II, Westhavelland.
