Elektrostal ( Russian Электроста́ль ) is a major Russian city in Moscow Oblast . It is located 52 kilometers east of Moscow and has 155,196 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
history
Elektrostal was founded in 1916 when industrialist Nikolai Wtorov was building a metallurgical factory . Until 1928 the place was called Satishye (Затишье, i.e. calm ). In 1938, Elektrostal was granted city rights.

economy
As the name suggests, Elektrostal is a center of the steel industry , which was located here shortly after the October Revolution . During the Second World War in 1941, in view of the German invasion, more heavy industrial plants were evacuated from the Ukraine here.
To this day, Elektrostal is an industrial city with heavy and chemical industry and a uranium enrichment plant . Elektrostal is also the end point of the 1150 kV three-phase line coming from the Ekibastus power plant . This line should the existing of all currently undergoing the commercial operation of high-voltage lines that designed for the highest transmission voltage power transmission system to be. However, it is currently only operated with 400 kV.
In the vicinity of Elektrostal, the Russian radio also operates a transmission system for medium wave with a transmission power of up to 1,200 kilowatts. The reception of this station is in principle also possible in Germany during the night.

The Kristall Elektrostal ice hockey club plays in the Pervaya League . The city is represented in field hockey by the Dinamo Elektrostal association.
