Elektrostal ( Russian Электроста́ль ) is a major Russian city ​​in Moscow Oblast . It is located 52 kilometers east of Moscow and has 155,196 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

history

Elektrostal was founded in 1916 when industrialist Nikolai Wtorov was building a metallurgical factory . Until 1928 the place was called Satishye (Затишье, i.e. calm ). In 1938, Elektrostal was granted city rights.

As the name suggests, Elektrostal is a center of the steel industry , which was located here shortly after the October Revolution . During the Second World War in 1941, in view of the German invasion, more heavy industrial plants were evacuated from the Ukraine here.
