Career
Vladimir Sharkov began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth division of HK CSKA Moscow , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Russian Super League in the 2005/06 season . In his rookie year , the winger prepared a goal in five games. Then he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2006 in the third round as a total of 77th player by the New Jersey Devils .
First, however, he stayed in Moscow for two years before he spent the entire 2008/09 season in the New Jersey farm team , with the Lowell Devils from the American Hockey League . For this, the left-shooter scored eleven goals in 69 games and provided 23 assists. After he had started the 2009/10 season with the Lowell Devils in the AHL, the Russian made his debut in the National Hockey League for the New Jersey Devils on November 28, 2009 in a game against the New York Islanders .
In the following three game years he completed a total of 82 NHL games for the Devils, but was mostly used in the AHL in the 2011/12 season. Therefore, he decided to return to Russia, where he received a two-year contract from CSKA Moscow. In the following years, his contract was extended several times before his offensive performance collapsed in the 2017/18 season and he left the CSKA.
In May 2018 he received a two-year contract with Salawat Julajew Ufa .
