In April 2013 Granlund received an NHL entry contract from the Flames and was used by them from the beginning of the 2013/14 season at the Abbotsford Heat in the American Hockey League (AHL). In February 2014, he made his debut for the Flames in the NHL. From then on, Granlund was constantly changing between AHL and NHL, before he was given to the Vancouver Canucks in February 2016 in exchange for Hunter Shinkaruk .
In early July 2019, he signed a one-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers as a free agent . After the contract expired, the Finn moved back to Europe and joined Salawat Julajew Ufa from the Continental Hockey League (KHL).
