Juha Metsola (born February 24, 1989 in Tampere ) is a Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper . Since May 2018 he has been under contract with Salawat Julajew Ufa in the Continental Hockey League .
Career
Juha Metsola began his career with Tampereen Ilves in his hometown, where he went through all junior teams and in 2006 became Finnish B youth champion. After he was selected in the first round of the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the CHL Import Draft 2007 in 25th place, he moved to North America and played the following two seasons for the team from Alberta in the Western Hockey League . In 2008 he achieved the second best catch quota behind Dustin Tokarski of the Spokane Chiefs and the second best goal against Tyson Sexsmith of the Vancouver Giants . In 2009 he returned to Finland and joined the Hämeenlinnan Pallokerho , with whom he became Finnish runner-up in 2010. During this time he was loaned out to clubs from the second-class Mestis . In 2011 he moved back to his hometown Tampere , where he was now in the box of Tappara . With the club he was runner-up again three times (2013, 2014 and 2015). He achieved the highest number of shutouts in the Liiga in each of the three runners-up years . After he had the second best quota after Antti Raanta von Porin Ässät in 2013 , he even achieved the best catch quota of the Liiga in 2015. In the same year he was honored as the best goalkeeper in the division with the Urpo-Ylönen Trophy . He was the first Tappara player since 2001 (then Jussi Markkanen ) to receive this award.
From 2015 Metsola played for Amur Khabarovsk in the Continental Hockey League and was nominated for the KHL All-Star Game in 2016 .
International
In the junior division, Metsola played for Finland at the U18 World Cup in 2007 , when he scored the lowest goal goal and after the Swiss Robert Mayer and the Slovak Jaroslav Janus the third best catch rate, and the U20 World Championship in 2009 , when he again had the lowest goal goal and after Jacob Markström achieved the second best catch quota of the tournament.
During the Euro Hockey Tour 2012/13 he made his debut in the Finnish men's selection . In 2018 he was part of the Finnish squad at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang , but was not used.
