Jaroslav Janus (born September 21, 1989 in Prešov , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey goalkeeper who was most recently under contract with HC Slovan Bratislava from the Continental Hockey League .

Career

Jaroslav Janus began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of HC Prešov , where he was active until 2005. The goalkeeper then moved to the youth department of HC Slovan Bratislava , where he spent the following two years alternately with its U18 and U20 juniors. For the 2007/08 season he joined the Erie Otters from the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League . During his time in Canada he was selected in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round as the 162nd player of the Tampa Bay Lightning . With these he received a contract in January 2010, whereupon he stood for the farm team of the Lightning, the Norfolk Admirals , in the American Hockey League between the posts. However , he spent most of the 2010/11 season with cooperation partner Florida Everblades in the ECHL . In the following season he won the Calder Cup with the Norfolk Admirals .

For the 2012/13 season he returned to HC Slovan Bratislava in his Slovak homeland. In the team that had recently been accepted into the Continental Hockey League , he was the goalkeeper straight away. In the 2014/15 season he shared the post of goalkeeper with Johan Backlund before he was transferred to HC Sparta Prague from the Czech Extra League in January 2015 .

In the 2015/16 and 2016/17 game years Janus was then under contract with HC Verva Litvínov and showed excellent performances, especially in the Extraliga relegation 2016 with catch rates of over 92% and a goal against goals of 1.6. Janus returned to HC Slovan Bratislava in May 2017, but remained without commitment for the club and was sacked at the end of September of the same year.

International

For Slovakia Janus took part in the U18 Junior World Championship in 2007 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2009 . At the U20 World Cup in 2009 he was elected to the all-star team of the tournament.
